Celtics-Lakers Is Now A Reality

Posted in Uncategorized on May 31, 2008 by cmsplog

The Boston Celtics, surviving one of the single worst foul calls in the history of foul calls on Paul Pierce in the third quarter (you have to see it to believe it), outscored the Detroit Pistons 29-13 in the 4th quarter and won 89-81. An absolutely tremendous fourth quarter for Paul Pierce who took over the game, showing the grit he had in Game 7 against Cleveland, a maturity we wished he had in year’s past, the captain was the MAN for the Celts down the stretch. James Posey also had a huge steal to help seal it, and the team that couldn’t win a road game against Atlanta or Cleveland takes 2 out of 3 in Detroit and moves on. Game 1 of the Finals is on Thursday night on ABC, I know I will be watching.

Posted in Jon Lester, Major League Baseball, NBA, NHL on May 20, 2008 by cmsplog

I made a post about Jon Lester last night, all pertinent links are here, here, and here. I also did an Internet radio show last night about it, we then rambled off on other things. It’s unedited, and I join in about 20 minutes into it, this is probably going to be a regular thing going forward. Here it is.

On a night of remarkable stories, another one came out of Los Angeles last, in the form of Blake DeWitt. This kid started the year in AA, and it took injuries to Nomar Garciaparra, Andy LaRoche, and Tony Abreu to get this kid on the roster.

The Reds were left to swallow the fact they threw the game away. A team like the Reds cannot afford to make stupid errors on the road, because it is entirely conceivable they could go 0-fer on their west coast trip.

The Phillies left their bats in Philadelphia last night, wasting a quality start (I wish sarcasm could be easily detected online) from Mr Congeniality Brett Myers. He went 6 innings giving up three runs and is credited with a quality start for that, which by the way is a 4.50 era. How is THAT quality?

The Nationals got on the back of Tim Redding and took advantage of the Phillies lack of offense.

St Louis let Albert Pujols and Ryan Ludwick do the damage against the banged up Padres. Jake Peavy is going on the DL.

Tampa Bay pulled one out in Oakland thanks to Evan Longoria. The A’s wasted a great performance from Frank Thomas.

Colorado held off San Francisco last night. Just remember, Clint Hurdle is coaching the NL All-Star team this year. Yes, Clint Hurdle. I think the AL is going to increase the streak.

Texas continues to find ways to lose, this time coming back to take a late lead in Minnesota, losing it to go to extra innings, and wasting a bases loaded opportunity in the 11th. This was a wild one, pitchers hit, Livan Hernandez was on deck when the winning run was scored, it was nutty.

The San Antonio Spurs managed to take advantage of a 3 day break to eliminate the Hornets last night. This sets up quite an NBA Final Four with Detroit v. Boston and Spurs v. Lakers, 39 Titles between the four teams.

The Penguins and the Red Wings are set for the Stanley Cup Finals.
TV Schedule is as follows-
Game 1- Saturday 5/24 on VS 8 PM
Game 2- Monday 5/26 on VS 8 pm
Game 3- Wed 5/28 on NBC 8pm
Game 4- Sat 5/31 on NBC 8pm
Game 5-Mon 6/2 on NBC 8pm
Game 6-Wed 6/4 on NBC 8pm
Game 7-Sat 6/7 on NBC 8pm

If you like hockey but just haven’t watched, watch this series. Trust me, you won’t regret it. There too many stars on both sides of the ice for this series not to go 7 games.

That’s it for today. May do a radio show later, I will post the schedule here when I know.

Thanks for reading and for the love of god COMMENT! I know you’re reading, say something!

Jon Lester Throws a No-Hitter

Posted in Uncategorized on May 20, 2008 by cmsplog

In case you have been under a rock tonight, Jon Lester threw a no-hitter in Boston, facing 29 hitters (he gave up two walks, that’s it). What a friggen amazing story. i really do not care who you are a fan of right now, if you have a soul, if you have anyone (or been someone) that has ever dealt with cancer, just to see what this kid has done is just amazing. In case you are keeping score this makes four no hitters for Jason Varitek.

Hank Steinbrenner must just be finished crying right now (and not because he was moved).

Orioles Magic Making it Happen!

I had to start off today with that video link, you can’t not laugh at it. My favorite part is at 1:21 with the dancing O’s doll. Priceless.

The Yankees are in trouble. Big trouble. They lost two games to the struggling Mets in Yankee Stadium, and the House That Ruth Built started to sound like a Mets fan convention at the end.
A-Rod will be back Tuesday, though, so that should help their offense from the 1st to the 6th inning, right?

After a closed door meeting on Friday night, the Mets just pounded the Yankees this weekend and got their groove back.

The Phillies lost a tough one after a lengthy rain delay. Weird game, Roy Halladay pitched 2 and 1/3 innings of relief for Toronto. Brad Lidge is on the Jim Rome Show, today, if you listen to it.

The Red Sox rolled over another NL opponent.

Ryan Braun was not pleased with his teams performance. Here’s a prediction, Ned Yost is fired as Brewers manager by the end of the week.

The hits just keep on coming for the Padres, as Jake Peavy was scratched from his next start with elbow trouble. Fire up those Greg Maddux trade rumors, and where in the hell is Chase Headley?

The Royals slapped the Marlins around. Nice to see KC being respectable. Somewhere Jim Eisenreich is smiling…

The opposite of the word respectful would be dreadful, and that would describe the Tigers right now. I wonder how many packs a day Jim Leyland is smoking?

The Celtics continued their home dominance yesterday, thanks to Paul Pierce and PJ Brown. No way the Celtics beat Detroit with out winning at the Palace. One national columnist is picking the Pistons in 6. Rasheed Wallace has a nickname for the Celtics.

Tim Donaghy bet on more than 100 games when he was an NBA ref. Will someone please find out if the Philadelphia 76ers were ever in one of those games so Arlen Specter can look into this?

Game 7 of the Hornets-Spurs is tonight, three days after game 6. The NBA Playoffs are becoming like labor, its long, it’s painful, but at the end you have some wonderful memories.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (and the NHL) await the Detroit Red Wings to finish off Dallas. Could a seven game final finally get the NHL a real tv deal?

Hornets 101- Spurs 96.
