Sunday Morning Quick Hitters

The Black Bears Men’s Hockey Team falls to Colgate with 1 second left in overtime, 3 – 2. The Black Bears play a consolation game today.

The Portland Pirates allowed a late goal to the rival Manchester Monarchs, falling 3 – 2. The Pirates return to action today at 4PM at the Cumberland County Civic Center.



The MAINEiacs lost to Victoriaville, giving up 2 goals late in the 3rd period, 4 – 3. The MAINEiacs return home Monday to the Colisee to face Gatineau.


The Boston Bruins continued their hot streak as Blake Wheeler scored 2 clutch goals on the way to defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 4 – 2 in Carolina.


Army Hockey will visit New England over the next few days, as they compete in the Ledyard National Bank Classic in Hanover New Hampshire, hosted by Dartmouth. Army will face Dartmouth today.

The Boston Celtics went right down to the wire, but out lasted the Atlanta Hawks 88 – 85. This game took off just where the playoff series ended last season. “This is not a rivalry,” Garnett said. “[The Hawks] are a very good team, they play with a lot of confidence and swagger. Joe Johnson is one of the best in the business and they cause a lot of hell and havoc. But you have to win for it to be a rivalry.” The Celtics won their 16th straight and are now 24 – 2.

Army Football Senior Tailback Colin Mooney was invited to participate in the East – West Shrine Game January 17th.

Army LB Stephen Anderson has been named an honorable mention Sophomore All-American by CollegeFootballNews.com.

The Boston Celtics won their 15th straight game (franchise record) , and are the 4th team to go 23 -2 to start an NBA Season. Rajon Rondo outplayed Deron Williams, almost going for a triple double scoring 25 points, 9 Rebounds and 7 Assists as the Celtics dispatched of the Utah Jazz and avenged last seasons worst loss, beating the Jazz 100 – 91 at the Boston Garden.

Black Bears Hockey Freshman Goalie Scott Darling was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week yesterday. Darling was 2 – 0, 1.00 GAA and .937 save percentage.

Former Maine Black Bear Teddy Percell got his 1st goal of the season for the Los Angeles Kings against the NHL leading San Jose Sharks. Teddy was called up last week from the Manchester Monarchs.

Dustin Pedroia and Daisuke Matsuzaka will be the only Red Sox participating in the WBC this spring.

Ron Borges and John Tomasi (ummm) report that Matt Light has a separated shoulder.
